An archiveopen to everyone.

The archive targets level AA of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, in English and in French. It has been designed and checked against these criteria, but has not yet been audited by an independent body; until then, we do not claim full conformance.

Every page can be used with a keyboard alone, with a visible focus and a link to skip to the content. Colours are checked for contrast in both the dark and the paper themes. Every image has a text alternative in both languages, and every media carries its credit. Text remains readable when enlarged to 200 per cent.

Sound never starts on its own: it begins only when you enter the archive, and a mute button is always visible. Animations are reduced when your system asks for it. The data saver keeps images from loading until you ask, and pages you have opened can be read offline. The whole text of the archive is readable without JavaScript.

The enlarged view of an image shows the picture only; its description is the text alternative of the image on the page. The original records we link to belong to other institutions and may not meet the same level. Images veiled for their sensitivity stay described by their text alternative while veiled. The timeline and the map are also offered as lists, which are the most comfortable way to use them with a screen reader.

We correct each problem we are told about. This statement is updated with every change.
